බ්‍රෙට් ශුල්ට්ස් යනු පැයට සැතපුම් 90ක වේගයෙන් පන්දු යැවිය හැකි දකුණු අප්‍රිකානු වමත් වේග පන්දු යවන්නෙකි. Eastern Province ක්‍රීඩා කරමින් 1990 - 91 සිට 1992 - 93 දක්වා වූ සමයෙහි දැක් වූ දක්ෂතා හේතුවෙන් ශුල්ට්ස් හට 1992/93 ඉන්දියාවට එරෙහිව පැවති තරගාවලි සංචිතයට කැද විය. ශුල්ට්ස් තම ප්‍රථම තරගය එම සංචාරයේදීම දර්බන් හිදී ක්‍රීඩා කළා. තරග තහනමට පසු දකුණු අප්‍රිකාව ක්‍රීඩා කල ප්‍රථම තරගය වන්නේ මෙයයි.

තම දක්ෂතා අතරට පැමිණෙමින් ශුල්ට්ස් පසුව පවතී ශ්‍රී ලංකා තරගාවලියේදී දකුණු අප්‍රිකා පිල තරගාවලි ජයග්‍රහණයක් කරා ගෙන ගියා. ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ මන්දගාමී තණතීරු වල පන්දු යවමින් ශ්‍රී ලංකා පිතිකරුවන් සියල්ලන්ටම වගේ අසහනයක් ගෙන දුන්නේ ඔහුගේ වේගය සහ ඉලිප්පීම උපයොගී කරගෙනය. ඔහු මෙම තරගාවලියේ වීරයා බවට පත් වුයේ කඩුලු 20ක් එක් කඩුල්ලකට සාමාන්‍ය 16.30 වැනි ඉතාම අඩු අගයක රදවා ගනිමින්ය.

ආබාධ හේතුවෙන් වසර 2ක් පමණ ක්‍රිකට් වලින් ඈත් වී සිටීමට ශුල්ට්ස් ට සිදුවිය. ඔහු සිම්බාබ්වේ කණ්ඩායමට එරෙහිව 1995-96 නැවතත් තරග බිමට පිවිසියද එම වසරේදීම එංගලන්තය සමග ක්‍රීඩා කරන විට ඇති වූ අබාධය හේතුවෙන් නැවතත් ක්‍රීඩා කිරීමට නොහැකි විය. 1997 දී ඔස්ට්‍රලියානු ටෙස්ට් තරග මාලාවේ අවසන් තරගයට ක්‍රීඩා කිරීමට නැවතත් පැමිණි ශුල්ට්ස් එම තරගය ක්‍රීඩා කරන විට ඔහුගේ වේගය ඉතාමත් අඩු මට්ටමක පැවතුනි. එහේත් තම දක්ෂතා අතරට පිවිසෙමින් කඩුලු 6ක් දවා ගැනීමට ශුල්ට්ස් සමත් විය. එම වසරේම පකිස්තානු තරගාවලියේදී උරහිසේ නහරයක් පිපිරිම නිසා ශුට්ස් හට ක්‍රිකට් ක්‍රීඩාව සදහටම අතහරින්නට සිදුවිය.

ශුල්ට්ස් ඔහුගේ ඉතාමත් කෙටි ටෙස්ට් තරග ජීවිතයෙහි තරග 9 කට පමණක් ක්‍රීඩා කරමින් දවාගෙන ඇති කඩුලු සංක්‍යාව 37කි. සාමාන්‍ය 20.24. නමුත් ඔහුගේ පළමුපෙළ වාර්තාව තරමක් දිර්ගය. කඩුලු 233ක් දවාගෙන ඇත්තේ තරග 60ක් ක්‍රීඩා කරමින්ය. සාමාන්‍ය 24.40. කඩුලු 5ක් දවාගත් අවස්ථා 12කි.

Brett Schultz

Brett Schultz is a South African left arm pacer who could bowl over 90mph. His impressive performance from 1990-91 to the 1992-93 season for Eastern Province earned him a place in South African national squad against India in 1992/93. Schultz made his debut in Durban in the same match. This was the first match that South Africa played after their layoff from Cricket.

Schultz then really announced himself in the tour to Sri Lanka where he steered South Africa to a series victory. Bowling on lifeless wickets in Sri Lanka Schultz surprised almost all the Sri Lankan batsmen with his sheer pace and bounce. He ended up with 20 wickets at an average of 16.30 and won the man of the series.

Schultz picked up injuries after that and was out of cricket for 2 years. He made a come back against Zimbabwe in 1995-96. He then suffered a buttock injury in the same year when playing against England. Schultz made anther come back against Australia in the Final test of the series in 1997. His pace had drastically reduced by then, yet he picked up 6 wickets in a game that Australia won. His return was shortly cut as he was finally forced to retirement when a blood vessel burst out in his left shoulder when he was playing the first test against Pakistan same year.

Schultz' in his ultra short test career extended for 9 matches has picked up 37 wickets averaging 20.24. His first class career though was much longer. In 60 matches he has picked up 233 wickets at 24.40 with 12 5 fors.
