2000 දශකයේ මුල් භාගයේ එනම් 2003 ලෝක කුසලාන සමයේදී අපටපැයට කිලෝමීටර් 150ට වඩා වැඩි වේගයකින් පන්දු යවන අතිදක්ෂවේග පන්දු යවන්නන් කිහිප දෙනෙකුම දැකබලා ගැනීමට හැකිවිය.Brett Lee, Shoaib Akhtar ,Mohommad Sami සහ නවසීලන්තයෙන් බිහිවූShane Bond ද ඒ අතර විය.
Shane Bondගේ අතිවිශිෂ්ට පන්දු යැවීමට හරස් වූ එකම බාධාව වුයේ ඔහුටඇතිවූ අබාධ තත්වයන් ය. වේග පන්දු යවන්නෙක්ට තිබිය යුතු සියලු හැකියාවන් ඔහු සතුව විය. වේගය, දෝලනය, මනා පාලනය සහ ඔහුටම සුවිශේෂී වූ banana swing හැකියාවද ඔහු සතුව තිබුණි.
අවාසනාවකට මෙන් දිගින් දිගටම ඇතිවූ අබාධ තත්වයන් නිසා ඔහුට බොහෝ තරඟ අවස්ථා මගහැරී ගියේය. පිටකොන්දේ සහ දණහිස් වල ඇතිවූ අබාධ වලින් ඔහුට පුර්ණ සුවයක් අත් නොවීය. වර්ෂ 2008දි ඔහුට නවසීලන්ත ක්‍රිකට් කොන්ත්‍රාත්තුව වසර 1.5කට අහිමි විය. ඒ ඔහු Indian Cricket League (ICL) තරඟාවලිය ක්‍රීඩා කිරීමට තීරණය කල නිසාය.
වසර 2001දි ක්‍රීඩා දිවිය ආරම්භ කර 2010දි ක්‍රීඩා දිවිය අවසන් කරන විට Bond ක්‍රීඩා කර තිබුනේ එක්දින තරඟ 82ක් සහ ටෙස්ට් තරඟ 18කට පමණි. එය ඉතා කණගාටුදායක කරුණකි. අබාධ හේතුවෙන් කණ්ඩායමෙන් ඉවත් කලද අවස්ථාවක් ලද සැනින් Bond ඉතා දක්ෂ ලෙස ක්‍රීඩා කළේය. මෙම දත්ත එයට සාක්ෂි දරයි.

මෑත කාලයේ බිහිවූ strike bowlers අතරින් එක් පන්දු යවන්නෙක් ලෙස bond හැඳින්විය හැක.එක්දින තරඟ වලදී strike rate 29.2ක් සහ ටෙස්ට් තරඟ වලදී strike rate 38.2 ලෙස සටහන් වී තිබීම තුලින්ම එය පැහැදිලි වේ.
එක්දින ජ්‍යාත්‍යන්තර තරඟ වලදී කඩුලු 100 සිමාව පසුකල දෙවන වේගවත්ම ක්‍රීඩකයා bond ය.(ඉනිම් 54කදි). තවත් කඩුලු 3ක් දවාගත්තේ නම් කඩුලු 150 සිමාව පසුකල දෙවනවේගවත්ම ක්‍රීඩකයා වීමට ඔහුට අවස්ථාව තිබුණි.
ඕස්ට්‍රේලියානු පිතිකරණයේ ස්වර්ණම යුගයේදී ඕස්ට්‍රේලියානු පිතිකරුවන්ට අභියෝගයක් එල්ල කල පන්දු යවන්නන් අතලොස්සගෙන් එක් අයෙක් වූ bond ඔස්ට්‍රේලියාවට එරෙහිව එක්දිනතරඟ 17 කදී කඩුලු 44ක් දවාගෙන ඇත. කඩුලු 5 දවාගැනීම් අවස්ථා 3ක් සහ එක් කඩුලු ත්‍රිත්වයක් දඑයට ඇතුලත් ය.
සෑමවිටම පැයට සැතපුම් 90 ඉක්මවා පන්දු යැවීමේ හැකියාව සතුවූ bondගේ වේගවත්ම පන්දුව සටහන් වන්නේ 2003 ලෝක කුසලාන තරඟාවලියේදී ය. ඒ පැයට කිලෝමීටර් 156.4ක් ලෙසිනි

Shane Bond
In early 2000s specially in 2003 world cup time we were lucky to see plenty of very quick, fast bowlers who had consistently bowled over 150kmph. Brett Lee,Shoaib Akhtar,Mohommad Sami and also there were New Zealand's Shane Bond.
Bond will be remembered as much for his misfortune with injuries as for his wonderful ability. Bond had all that a fast bowler needs. Pace,seam,swing and even banana swing. But unfortunately Bond's career was plagued with injuries, chiefly recurring stress fractures of the back. He had suffered with back problems, knee injuries throughout his career and also an abdominal tear. He also lost 1.5 years of international career as his contract with New Zealand was terminated by New Zealand Cricket because he had signed a contract with the Indian Cricket League (ICL) in January 2008.
Even though he started his career in 2001 and retired in 2010 his career was just limited to 18 Tests and 82 ODIs. Which is a very unfortunate thing. Though he was in and out of the team because of injuries he performed really well whenever he got a chance. His numbers are just majestic.

He is one of the best strike bowlers in modern generation. ODI strike rate of 29.2 and a staggering Test strike rate of 38.2 proves that. In One Day Internationals he was the 2nd fastest to 100 ODI wickets(54 innings) and could have easily the 2nd fastest to 150 ODI wickets as well if he had taken 3 more wickets.
Bond is one of rare bowlers who consistently troubl
ed the mighty Australians in their golden era. In 17 ODIs he has taken 44 wickets against Australia with 3 five wicket hauls and also a hatrick.
Bond was capable of bowling at speeds in excess of 90 miles in regular basis. His fastest recorded delivery was clocked at 156.4 km/h against India in the 2003 World Cup.
